The Do's and Don'ts of Social Media and Journalism:


Everyone has now accounts on different social sites. Even now few news organizations can now reservation the fundamental role, which social media plays in the different news gathering networks, as an outlet for journalism. 

Five Social Media and Journalism Do’s:

1.                   Be Active:
For a journalist it is important to be active on twitter, so you can get different ideas from the people whom you follow or your followers. Staying active on twitter helps journalists in many different ways, but if a journalist is using twitter once in week, its sound wired.  

2.                   Make Large Social Network:
Social networking is the important helpful tool of journalists. A Journalists should make a large social network on twitter because its help out in several ways because you never know when you can need them.

3.                   Update: 

Social networking is a good tool of journalists. Good way to stay in touch with your social networking circles is to update news, and give more updates on the development of the story.

4.                   Feel Free to ask about story idea:
On social media journalist should ask about people thoughts on the story idea. The journalist can ask his network that “Hey guys I need to story on politics, I need a thoughts from you guys.” 

5.                   Engage your followers:
Keep your followers engage because by doing this you can get opinion on different issues, which also helps them to get idea about story and sometimes journalists can use the good opinions in his story as well. 

Five Social Media and Journalism Don’ts:

1.                   Vulgarity:
Never post any kind of vulgarity on the social networking. As we all know our twitter or any other account is our identity or brand. 

2.                   Political Views:
A journalist should avoid posting his personal political views. Being a journalist our responsibility is to tell truth, but we are not supposed to give our views or opinion on any public platform. 

3.                   Don’t Share your personal information:
Engaging followers doesn’t mean that you share your personal information because it may put yourself in some kind of danger. 

4.                   Don’t write off the record stuff:
Being a journalist it is your journalistic duty not to share off the record stuff because this is unethical. If journalist does this thing, it may affect the credibility of journalist.

5.                   Don’t post your Funky photos:

Being a professional, a journalist should avoid posting his funky or funny photos because it is totally unprofessional behavior.
